Downtime (awful content) on the forum

Jeez, just clicking on one was a shock and I reckon I've seen a few things! A few Qs if anyone has any answers (Dan)?

Were any of the posters known around here?
If so are there grounds for any law enforcement?
Is there any risk of pc contamination?
And does anybody know what sort of kicks people get out of that kind of thing? Posters do tell us and make sure your bio is complete so we know who to avoid.

Must admit I felt a bit sick after clicking on just one but thoughts of the next cracking sail soon took over - anyone doing JOG Weymouth on 18/7?

Not sure what you mean by that, but I can assure you that I wont be filling my bio in anytime soon!

In any case a bio can contain any amount of bollocks.

Hi,

First off, I've locked the thread, I appreciate that everyone wants to know what happened but I'd like to return to normality asap, so any discussion moved to the lounge.

We are still investigating the source of the posts, but what I can say is that the forums were not hacked. This was a case of spam, meaning that loads of users were created and posts copied and pasted all over the place with the idea being we couldn't keep up, hence we closed the forums.

There is no risk of pc contamination, some links were attempts to launch virus programmes but we've disabled all html and mark up, as well as images, for the time being until we can be sure this can't happen again.

As for the people that do this sort of thing, I can only imagine.
