Our club has a cruise in company from Stone Sc to Boulogne starting 15 may 2017. First stop will be Dover before crossing to Boulogne on 16 may. Does anybody know if the proposed new works to the new marina will affect the number of available visitors berths about that time please. Only I heard rumours that parts of the old harbour may be shut. Is that correct?

Thanks

I doubt that anything significant will have happened by then. The first bit to change, I believe, is to make a new access to Wellington Dock, which isn't usually used by visitors anyway. There are details on the Port of Dover website of the regeneration programme.

All the existing berthing facilities will remain as they are until we are moved into the new marina currently scheduled as end 2018 early 2019. There is a 100 metre construction exclusion zone in the outer harbour off the Prince of Wales pier. Access to the Wellington Dock will continue unchanged/unaffected by construction work for the new cut/gate from it into the new marina.

I'm just back from two weeks sailing in Brittany. We went down by car via DFDS. I was very surprised that we exited by the Western Entrance, although came back in the Eastern Entrance. Makes a lot of sense to me but will require extra care using the Western Entrance to access the marina, bit like the old days when the high speed ferry was going to Boulogne and the hovercraft before that.

When we traversed Dover both West and East bound in the summer, it sounded as if Port Control use the Western Entrance as a "congestion easing " option, we were hanging around at the Knuckle to depart East, and an outbound went to the Western... Bit of a moment with the prop wash as they turned....

Dont think there will be any changes to marina berths by then but there might be work going on around the clocktower end of the beach area including closure of the road from the Hythe restaurant around to the wellington bridge. They will be digging a new access lock into the wellington dock through there sometime next summer I think.
