Hi all,
I have come by some pieces of Douglas fir. Can anyone advise me on the suitability of this wood for boat repairs. I am restoring/repairing a 16ft sharpie. I am sure you will have lots of advice on where and where not to use and its structural capabilities etc . I also have some oak so would i be better of sticking to that?? All advice will be gratefully received.
Tim

My fishing vessel is built from Douglas fir or Oregon as its usually called here. Oregon on hardwood frames, built at the end of WW2 and sailed from Melbourne to New Guinea just in time for the war to end. Still has all the original timber so I guess you could say Douglas fir is durable.

Unfortunately, Steve omitted to include a /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif in his suggestion to pm me.

Out of anyone on this forum, I am probably one of the last people to ask for advice, being still very much a novice. I'll do my best to offer any help.
