Doral 250

OK so I reckon i've found "The one"

In fairness it's in top nick from the pics. I'm going through a dealer (Simco), couldn't get in touch with the seller directly.

Simco say they're going to bring it down to their place which is a pitty because i'd have liked to meet the owner

My main concern is... It's been sitting up on a traile rin a shed for the past 2 years. The boat can take that fine, it's the engine i'd be worried about. It's a KAD44 EDC. Now obviously Simco are going to fire her up etc. and have her running before I go over (Which presonally I disagree with, i'd like to see how she starts after 2 years of sleeping). Question is, should there be anything in particular I should keep a look out for? Should the dealer give it a full service for me? Afterall they're making about 4-5% on it (Oh and charging me £100 to drop it onto my trailer from a cradle) ... I thought something like that would be included in the dealers fee. If I was buying private I could understand... anyhow back on topic. Anything particular I should be looking out for with the engine apart from belts etc? And should the dealer give it a full service? (Eventhough it wouldnt give me much reassurance - I only trust myself when it comes to doing jobs like that)

Obviously after 2 years she's going to want a few minutes on idle and then about 30 mins ticking about under load before I open her up - Anyone got any suggestions?

Hi, the Doral 250 is a really nice well thought out boat, I looked at the Monticello last Sibs with a friend that was interested. I thought the swim platform a little large personally, but it seems to have become a Doral trademark.

Anyway BE careful here. Don't make your mind up until you've seen it. All you can be sure so far is that it is the type and model of boat that you're interested in.

Boats that have stood around not being used will mean two things:

1. Low hours in the standing period.
2. Silly little things will not be working, while others may be seized or corroded.

Be objective in your viewing, the extras 'mean nothing' as you've just stated, "most of them you don't need!" Let them know this when you're viewing.

These extras don't make this boat more valuable and especially to you, afterall, if they weren't on it, you wouldn't be looking at it, eh?

A service, antifoul, anodes and cleaning should be included in the price and as for the lift of £100, ignore it! You won't be paying it.

Because... Your offer price will be "including all of these things!" For you to be confident in this boat after standing unused for so long, it will HAVE to be checked out and serviced by the supplier (Simco) on your behalf, after all you are going to be taking it a long way away and back-up will be next to non existant.

If it has stood for this long they'll accept your offer, but be realistic. You will know what it's worth and so will the seller / broker. Be prepared to walk away, there's always another one. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good luck.

David at Simco is a top bloke. He won't do anything that isn't top service. You can seriously depend on the team there. I've got a Doral and they are great, just a class above many boats when it comes to detail. The "only" thing I would say about the 250/Montechello is that it slaps a bit due to the design and deep hull for the size of boat, many boats do of that size though. A friend has one, it's really nice though and in good seas and if you trim it out properly it'll be great fun.
