Don\'t want to depress you guys with big diesel boats but...

Diesel cargo in the international market has traded at $955/tonne(~115$/bbl), all time record and heading higher. North sea crude at $95/bbl and ditto, $100/b here we come. At least the US$ being toxic waste gives us some respite but at this rate marine diesel will be £1.20/litre by the time red is finished.

Oh well, good job it's winter and very little boating to be done.

Jon.

life's not a dress rehearsal, you can't go backwards and do it differently.

you've only got one life, so live it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Therein lies the reason to produce more veggie based fuel for the agrcultural & leisure market surely?

That makes me feel better - I'm in the process of changing from a twin-engined boat to a single, losing 280hp on the way.

you're mixing common sense, with what Westminster wants, the two are not at all compatible. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am divided in this issue

from a certain way 100 US$ will make the world depend less on it
hence in the future hoping for lower oil prices as its consumption will be reduced even less

the bad news is that right now we really depend on it but just imagine what a shock would be if only electircal power looses its dependance on oil
we are already seeing some great signals in this direct from Solar and Wind Power and more is to come from technology like Wave Power and who knows what else is goin to come

IMO 100 US$ means less dependance on it and bigger push to new technologies

No way, the powerhouse economies will chomp up more and more. As for renewables, dont believe what you read in the papers. All this crap from the government is only lip service. Considerable amounts of reneweables will go ahead, of course, but as things stand at the moment nothing like enough to make a dramatic difference. Hope it does though I have been trying to sell renewable power plant for years!!!!

Don't know what all the fuss is about $100/barrel! This was expected as are most energy experts predictions that it will inevitably climb to $200 a barrel within the next 7 years. We'll survive, the markets will find their levels and economies restructure. The good thing about high oil prices is that it could "save" the planet as alternative energy becomes financially viable. Perhaps "save" is the wrong word, rather "delay" the inevitable and nautural cycle of our little spec of dust which in the normal cosmic course of events will cease to exist as we know it, but not for a while yet, but 5bn years would be a good bet when our sun will become a red giant. It's all a matter of perspective.

This from the FT was interesting. I'm amazed the refineries should take such a big hit when they didn't really need to.

I wonder if anyone insde the industry can shed any light on this?

Re: Don\'t want to depress you guys with big diesel boats but...

I think you'll find oil is still "cheap" if you compare it to the production cost of alternative energy - it's the tax that makes the difference.

I just topped up SV with 1700 litres last week.

Looks like another good investment /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
