One very dark & rainy night I stopped at a garage for some screenwash, topped up and only then realised that I had put water in the power steering reservoir - they are side by side on my car.

Cost me several hundred pounds to get the system drained and flushed.

Now I have the power steering reservoir cap fixed with a tiewrap so I never do it again

That does take the edge of the old fashioned approach of sniffing down the filler to identify which is diesel, and which is water..... bet your bottom dollar i'd get the bloody holding tank every time.......
