I have seen her on many occasions over the years. She is actually a very nice looking boat which was, as I understand it, abandoned at Kingholm Quay for many years, during which it was very sad to see her deteriorating. That said, for a steel boat she is still pretty rust-free on the outside. It would be nice to see her done up. I'm very happy to go along and have a look or take pictures for anyone seriously interested - I'm only 20 miles away.
 
Out of commission for that long there won't be anything that doesn't need proper maintenance/replacement. £8K is a steal. But not for the buyer.
 
It does seem a little optimistic, yes. However, I don't know if any work has been done to her. I suspect that the seller is someone who has taken her on and given up.

Meanwhile, there may be a deal to be had in Leith.
 
I have a pal who bought a steel boat in about the same condition five years ago. It is still on the hard.

I suspect that the problem is the same as with ferrocement hulls - the basic structure seems quite cheap and the fitting out costs are horrifying. What's a new mast for this boat going to cost ... £10k? Same again for a couple of sails?

I remember seeing her at Kingholm Quay many times 15 years or so back. She looked then to have been abandoned part built.

I wonder, did the boat ever go to sea? Or is it another large steel project abandoned multiple times?

I believe she arrived there after a significant amount of voyaging. The owner disappeared and was believed to have died some time later.
 
There is a Ferro cement 36 footer livaboard/ blue water cruiser near my boat, reduced to £20000 for quick sale, it was up for 40k originally. A bit of a mess to say the least.
 
It isn't only the sellers of AWBs who have no idea of the true "value" of their boats...

I can't help thinking that, unless it's something pretty special, a project boat is worth approximately a gallon of petrol and a box of matches.
 
No, seriously, as Jumbly says, the boat lay derelict for years.
It was spotted by an intrepid incomer who reported it as lost and found to the local Police.
After the requisite amount of time, no one jad claimed it, so it was his.
Apparently he brought a battery down, and the engine started first pull, sweet as a nut.
Many years have passed since that though.
She may have been designed by Nicholson, but he had nothing to do with the plywood doghouse.
