Does anyone know of any charities which work with disadvantaged people and who may be able to use a small yacht (and who would know what they were getting into e.g. getting it ticketed as well as maintining it)?
The LondonSailing Project (Rona Trust ) does several trips per year with disabled people, as well as deaf and blind ones. Try www.ronatrust.com for further details
Check first, I have heard on other fora of such groups refusing similar donations on account of silly over interpretations of H & S regs. You need a sensible leader prepared to use common sense rather than simply hide under a table load of protective laws!
Our local scouts have to my knowledge been offered several different boats over the years. Even a Flying 15. At least one 23ft yacht was taken on then later given away and another old wooden 30fter given to a museum.
The problem is that probably for the same reaon you want to get rid of the boat they don't want it. Thye have 4 boats on swing moorings but basically they don't havee the willing man power to look after any more boats. So don't be too surprised if it is hard to get a group to take on your boat. Try anyway of course....olewill
Thanks for the comments.
The boat is in fine order and I'll happily stick with her, it just seems a shame for her not to get more use. However It does look as though there is no demand for 30' yachts for charitable purposes.
Please message me with any other goods ideas .
Again thanks
