Domestic Battery Options

Looking at the Tanya website, there are these two batteries, one at £38, https://www.tayna.co.uk/Leisure-Battery-678-Powerline-CaravanLeisureMarine-Battery-P7713.html or various Numax ones from £65 to £120, or the Enduroline for £80.

So has anyone any experience or comments onthe Powerline one and are the others twice as long lasting or what? I need to replace 3 85ah domestic batteries this spring.

I don't know the particular batteries but you do want genuine deep cycle batteries. A good indication of worth of a battery is it's weight. olewill

Its cheap, small and I can't see anyway to top up the battery level. Is that the biggest size that will fit or could you have 2 x larger batteries? and do you know how many AH you need each day both in harbour and at sea which dictates the save of the ban you need.

I notice that no details are given for the Powerline battery, so difficult to compare with anything else (even a paperweight as Ah not even quoted).

Someone asked about use in electric vehicles (e.g. Golf buggy) and was told:
"This battery is not suitable for traction applications. The battery weighs about 17Kg."

A T105 suitable for a golf cart weighs 28kgs for equivalent of 113Ah(C20) @ 12V.

I'd guess that the Powerline capacity will be around 75Ah or less and would die pretty quickly in a domestic bank if it is cycled a lot. However, weight looks similar to some batteries sold as 75Ah "leisure batteries". It is therefore possible that it is good value for the money vs. a more expensive leisure battery. Weight isn't the only indicator so really not possible estimate likely lifespan.

Financial risk of trying one would be quite low. Perhaps someone will come along with real life experience of Powerline batteries.

Looking at the other Powerline batteries, i'd agree with 75ah.

It'd disappointing that Tayna don't quote an ah figure. It's also disapointing to read the Q and A :

"Q What is the CCA rating of this battery?

A This is a leisure battery so it doesn´t have a CCA rating."

That, as we know, is bollox. All of their other leisure batteries quote CCA (and ah). Seems a bit evasive, if not dishonest, to me.

I would spend a little more and have better batteries, Numax or Varta would be my choice.

I've bought some Hankook 75ahr recently from battery megastore. Still going strong but not deep cycle. I understand they are rebadged.

As far as I can see according to the Tanya website, it is a 85ah. I will call them to check out of interest anyway.

For my installation, Trojan are too tall and the space is built around three type 24 batteries (225x175x255mm approx) hence this choice of size.

So will the Numax and other branded batteries that cost 2 to 3 times more, last 2 to 3 times longer?

With an ordinary lead acid accumulator, a good way of judging likely life is weight (the heavier the better) and size ( the deeper the better). In many cases the same mass producer makes several different brands, all of which are identical but labelled differently and sold at different price points.

The only thing that might lead you to believe it's 85ah is the heading "85Ah Leisure Batteries and Group 24 Size Leisure Batteries"

But think again, look at the other batteries in this section, few are 85ah.

All the ones of this size including the Powerline one are about 17-18kg.
