Dolpins and flying fish off Hartlepool yesterday

Martin, that must have made your day.

I have only had a couple of fleeting views of some harbour porpoises in all my years sailing. Hopefully I will see some dolphins on this trip.

Chatting with a visitor at Whitehills Marina who was staying in a caravan close to the beach. For three mornings he had seen dolphins jumping close to shore, but when I left there were none about.

Another yatchsman in Peterhead, who had been in the Orkneys recently, he had a pair of Orcas close to his transom. He was worried they might attack his rudder, but they did nothing.

Another couple said they saw lots of diving birds off Amble and it took them several minutes to realise they were puffins, yet when I was there I did not see a puffin.

Roger. I saw your comment about not seeing puffins off Coquet Island. I can only assume you were focused on the boat. There are 20,000 of them there and when I was there last week they were everywhere and as far S as Tynemouth.
We often get dolphins in the summer and they seem to follow the fish. The unusual thing for me was to see them throwing fish in the air for sport and I was pleased to capture it on video
Please keep us posted on your trip
