Took my 15 year old daughter out for a sail today......she's getting quite keen and is a reasonable helm.
Got about 2 miles off Dartmouth and all of a sudden there was a pod of Dolphins on our bow.........she had never seen this before.........her face lit up and for once she was speechless..........she even forgot to get her cameraphone to take a piccy :D

An excellent day.

Ah! Dolphins never fail to entice! I'm sure your daughter will never forget today's experience. Strange coincidence-a couple of hours ago I was reading an old log of ours which described a spectacular encounter with many dolphins during a night passage off the West coast Of Wales.

We were out 2 weeks ago heading for Brixham (from Dartmouth) and were followed by about 5 or 6 dolphins for about 10 minutes .......... first time out for a nephew of SHMBO and he was well chuffed ! On our way back we were then given a distant display by the Red Arrows over Salcombe way ......... needless to say, he thinks sailing is well cool :)

We had dolphins with us for about 2-3 minutes on Thursday, about 10 miles east of Dartmouth after leaving there for Poole. I have never seen dolphins leap so high out of the water!! They played around the bow for a couple of minutes and then headed for the yacht about half a mile behind.

As I posted earlier in a different thread - we had dolphins in Carrick Roads on Saturday.

Stayed with us/them for about 30 mins.

Lifts your spirits no end, especially as it was misty and drizzling at the time!

Ionian 2 weeks ago. We had a big pod join us, 6 broke off and played in the bow wave for about 10 minutes. This fella was last to leave, taking off ahead. Pretty much made the holiday for the family!
