A friend of mine has a Dolphin engine in his folkboat and intending to sail this weekend we went on board but couldn't start the engine. It would appear that there is a spark when you turn the engine on and off but no spark when it runs. Now although this sounds like a points problem this engine is a series ll and doesn't have any!

Has anyone had the same problem or does anyone know a good engineer on the Isle of Wight that is familiar with Dolphin engines.

we have a dolphin, and have found it very reliable - however it is critical to give it a regular supply of new spark plugs, about twice per season, and for the leads to be in good condition, or the sparking fails. So first off try a new set of plugs and leads, very cheap and easy. If that fails, ring dolphin, who have always been very helpful.

Ring the Dolphin Man on 01726 824724. He makes the engines in his workshop in Bodmin. He is great and will send you the correct parts, at very reasonable prices by return. One of the many great things about my old Folkboat was the engine. I motored hundreds of miles with it with never a problem.
