i would like to add a tachometer to my old 2 stroke dolphin engine. Runs great but would like to add a tachometer. I’m unsure how to wire it up. Cheers
Wiring should be dead easy for a spark plug engine. Usually there's just a coil wrapped around the lead to the spark plug to pick up the RPM. On a 2 stroke for each revolution of the engine there is one pulse/spark, at least for a single cylinder, and sometimes for a twin as well, anyway thats a setting and worse case if you get it wrong your RPM will just be out by a factor of 2 and you can fix it.
Other than that the tacho will just need power. That amazon one has a built in battery because it says "LCD display can be shut down to save the battery lifetime(Built-in CR2450) with user data retainted." Whether that is a good or bad thing I don't know but wiring it should be a complete 30 second doddle. I'm not sure they really meant to say retainted![]()
