Can any body tell me the situation on entering France with your dog on board or does he have to go by ferry also what about coming back.
What about Ramsgate not allowing dogs do I have to go on to dover if I don't want to cross from the Thames mouth

I think they have to return to the same port they left from, and bear in mind the pet passport scheme requires a vet visit 24-48 hours before arrival.

I would google for some answers from the official site, as very precise info must be adhered to...

Going outward, I don't think it matters, the French don't care. Coming back it has to be via a registered carrier i.e. ferry, you can't bring them back on your own boat.

Would agree with No Regrets though, you need to check the official requirements.

As the others say you need to check the latest official stuff, but as I understand it the dog needs a pet passport (proof of vacination againest rabies), it can go out on the boat but must return by a registared carrier, a Ferry basicaly and have visited a Vet in France within 24hrs of return to stamp the passport. So if your just poping over its not worth hassle.

Ramsgate is complete no go for dogs even if you are just visiting, they hate em /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Strangly no problem at Dover though.

After much campaigning Ramsgate lifted to doggie bar but when the Assistant Harbour Master was promoted he reinstated the ban.
Dover cannot ban dogs because if they did then registered carriers would not be able to use it as a port of entry.

If you need to use Ramsgate in an emergency, what ever you don't tell them you have a dog on board before getting safely in.

I don't think they make too much of a fuss but do insist the dog stays aboard.

Went into the chandlers and the owner told me he had just heard on his VHF that a boat having trouble offshore had just radiod in mentioned they had a dog on board and been refused entry. Now I'm sure if they called Mayday they could have got in without a problem, but I was suprised as the weather was so bad Ramgate Week sailing was being cancelled, we left our boat there for a week until better weather to get across to Holland.
