Having changed our minds about selling Jigsaw and buying smaller we have now also found ourselves to be the proud owners of two beagles, Bonnie and Bella, who are, this weekend, to be introduced to the delights of the Brightlingsea and hopefully by increments with the rest of the East Coast.

It is a long while, nearly 20 years in fact, since I sailed hereabouts with a dog, any suggestions for dog friendly (or unfriendly) ports, harbours and other locations?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi

Never had any problems landing with the dog at Heybridge or Bradwell for
starters. Most marinas are OK, and more convenient when you want a "run" ashore ;)

There are numerous landing places from dinghy, but if your dogs are anything like ours, if its muddy go somewhere else

Regards

Ian

Brightlingsea is dodgy for a start :). Not much in the way of a park for your doggies, and you need a dinghy for trips ashore.

Ipswich Haven Marina have a small dog walking area. Burnham on Crouch is excellent. Doggie heaven in fact, with a large park where muts can run their paws off.

Shotley is ok as well, as you can walk along the shore of The Orwell.

Royal Harwich is ok, with plenty of places to walk.

Titchmarsh is ok, with walks all around the marina.

St Kat's is dog friendly, with a small park close by.

We're off to Ramsgate tomorrow. They've removed the dog ban, but we're not sure what the dog walking situation will be. We have some astro turf which might come in handy. ;)

On The Deben, The Ramholt Arms is very dog friendly, but only moorings so you need a dinghy.

Thanks, that is a good list to start with, I seem to remember that when Ramsgate Marina banned dogs a few years ago there was a biggish fuss, so it sounds as if they have responded to public pressure!.

Might have to teach the dogs to row.

No gossip to be had from here. And I suspect this thread will very quickly go downhill if I did & with no reference to your pooches.

Well the dogs were great on the the boat this weekend, splendid behaviour all round although we hardly moved off the pontoon apart from to fill the water tanks. So many boat dogs at B'sea this weekend for Bonnie and Bella to meet and some cracking walks.

Actually sailing next text though, but so far very good indeed.

That's great news. Our dog is excellent on the boat, always well behaved. We did a first over the weekend. We left her loose in the cockpit and went onto another boat for evening drinks. She could still see us, but she didn't try and get off the boat, or bark or anything really. What a great little dog she is!

I was wondering about the 5011 symbols for the Quality of the Bottom, including sf and St.

And there is always an inverted Isolated Danger mark, that for a Dyke, a Groyne..

(Ed. That's enough innuendoes)
