Dog Wee on Teak Deck?

I am considering the purchase of a teak decked boat to live aboard.

Other half has just pointed out that our dog, very handily, uses the fore-deck as her toilet on occasion. Routinely, in fact, when we're on longer passages or at anchor.

I guess we can attempt to train her to use some astro-turf in a plastic tray - or something like that - but I'm not 100% sure we'll be able to convince her to use it.

Would repeated usage (by dog) of the deck cause any long term issues?

Even if we were absolutely super diligent with rinsing off straight after?

I can imagine spray coming aft when beating being a bit of a snag !

I'd think it would be OK if carefully tended to, but I'd try to find some sort of treatment ( for teak not dog ) - as on the foredeck it may be an idea anyway, and not look out of place ?

One thing to be wary of would be becoming used to any smell, then wondering why drinks invitations weren't taken up...

Hope you find a solution, this must have been dealt with before - how about trying the liveaboard forum ?

At the very least I would expect that it would get very smelly. Wouldn't be surprising if it stained as well...

I reckon dog wee will be fine on teak, especially if rinsed off quickly. In fact I would go as far as to give you a 100% guarantee that'll be fine, altho, um it's a bit of a worthless guarantee, realy...

Ideally the teak would be wet before the weeing. Instantly diluting with seawater (or train the dog to tip over a bucket? Or wee in the bucket??) wil be better but i don't see a problem - far less of an issue than red wine imho.

You can return teak deck to "not bad" using loose dishwasher powder - even just this will remove most tho not all stains dirt etc.

More serious stains (including great dollops of oil or grease) can be completely removed ad the teak returned to new-looking using the two-part teak cleaning products - Snappy Teak and Florida Teak and Wessex chemicals in uk all make near-identical products for this.

Never been a problem for us on the odd occasion one of ours has peed on the teak deck. No stains, washes off easily.

Yep not a problem here either, if i miss one and it does stain pretty much every teak cleaner takes it straight off anyway.

Oh you are lucky, you dog will pee on deck, our dog will not pee on board at all
