Dog life jacket

We have a crewsaver petfloat one. Fits our Spaniel well and doesn't bother her once on. Most of all, it's handle always stands slightly proud of the 'jacket, therefore should she fall in we will be able to fish her out with the boat hook.

Our dog absolutely hates her life jacket. so we don't make her wear it unless we feel that we need to wear our own. She is tethered when sailing but she is a good swimmer and we feel comfortable with the arrangement.

Laysula,

please try to be a bit strict about her wearing it - we lost my Westie that way.

It was before doggie lifejackets were available, I wasn't there but Dad was handling Benjy ( big and strong for a Westie ) from the boat into the inflatable at the Folly, in the days of trot moorings before the pontoons.

The dog struggled and went into the water - Dad jumped in after him and both were swept downtide, rescued by the next boat - Benjy never really recovered and died that night, we think from secondary drowning.

A friend always takes his dogs sailing, with a Crewsaver lifejacket; the buoyancy is a Plan B, it's the handle on top which is so useful.

Looks like a deal may have been done but, if it helps anyone, I bought Alfie a Ruffwear lifejacket. More to help with his wobbly back legs in is last few months. It has a really good handle on the top.

We had a crewsaver one for our spaniel which he wore all ways when underway. The lift handle was useful but I felt that the two thin straps under his tummy must been a bit uncomfortable when his weight was on it.
