Does your boat have one of these?

Mine does?

It just arrived today, now that I’ve seen it I’m not too sure if I’m going to be brave enough to ride it on a road!
I think bicycles are too heavy and awkward to get on an off a boat, these scooters fold and store easily. Just the thing for replenishing the boat at Intermarché.
What do you use?

Folding electric bikes. Whilst a bit heavy and cumbersome to get on and off the boat, they more than make up for it with lots of carrying power and enabling us to make distances that would be impossible at our ages (late 70s and 60s. Quite possibly the best boating accessories we have purchased. I feel they are safer on the roads than E scooters.

That looks good, we have two electric fold up bikes and yes they are bulky , if you don't mind me asking where did you get it from

But where on an E scooter would you keep the shopping.? The wheels are too small to accommodate panniers so you are left with a basket on the handlebars plus a rucksack. That wouldn`t be half enough carrying capacity for us.
Rucksack. Most shopping I don’t mind carrying but bottles get heavy really soon! It has a huge range so you can go to the shop multiple times!

I agree, electric bikes are the greatest invention of the twenty first century. When I first got mine (I’m an early adopter) I was ridiculed by everyone, especially the cycle club, many of whom looked like they want to assault me. But now, half the cycle club are on them! When I see old people using them I always feel good because it gives them independence, exercise and mobility. The problem is getting them on and off the boat, and especially into the lazaret. I could keep them on the flybridge and use the crane but the more effort it takes the less likely they are to be used.
I will let everyone know if I think they are worthwhile after a season. If you don’t hear from me it means the bloody thing has killed me????

I hope you follow the precaution I was taught on a Royal Navy leadership course of always unhitching one shoulder strap of your rucsac when near water deep enough to drown in.

I would hate to think of you lying on your back under a pontoon, weighed down by your booze, feebly waving your arms and legs until you drowned.

Good advice !

Yes, putting them away is a pain. We started off thinking we could keep them in the "eyebrow" and use the crane to get them up to the bridge. This proved to be a huge faff so they now live folded on the back end of the aft deck. That`s a bit liveaboard but as we live aboard that`s OK. :) We are thinking about goiing full size to make the riding experience more enjoyable.

I use fold up electric bikes.
Had them for 10 years now.
Street Cred Score of zero.
But for practicality they are great.
We have double panniers on the back and a handlebar basket on the front.
Beer is carried on the rack above the back wheel/panniers.
We can empty a big shopping trolley into two bikes.
Almost better than a car because the bikes get right down to the boat.
One of the best things that we have bought for the boat.
