My new boat (Moody 27) has a Yanmar 2GM20F engine. It is freshwater cooled but I can't confirm whether it has anode(s) or not. The manual is unclear but several articles on the web suggest it does NOT have anodes. Does anyone have (or have had) a 2GM20F and can confirm either way. Much appreciated.

My 3GM30F doesn't. The only contact there is between seawater and metal is at the heat exchanger and the pump. The heat exchanger is stainless steel of some sort and the pump is brass, maybe some bronze. So each will resist corrosion, at least to a reasonable extent, unprotected.

The exhaust manifold is a different matter and cannot be protected by an anode anyway.

yanmar workshop manual says there is one on my 3gm30f, but i cant find it. have been meaning to speak to dealer.

however if i think about it as per vyv_cox there is not much need for it, tho should we be looking more closely at the heat exchanger now and again, rather than just going "its not leaking yet" which is what i currently do??

my 2p worth. stop thinking you all say...

My workshop manual shows an anode on the aft end of the cylinder head (end away from the seawater pump) on the drawings of seawater cooled 1, 2, and 3 cylinder engines. No anode is shown on the fresh water cooled equivalents.

I have a 2gm fitted on my boat if its the same as mine it will have two annodes, one at the rear around the top near the cylinder head and another on the starboard side of the block, they are like screw in core plugs. Hope this helps
