does the 'wrong' grease in my trailer bearing matter ?

Is the “yard trailer” road legal? Most custom built ones optimised for short distances aren’t.
On the other hand if it was originally built (and plated?) as a road trailer then that should be OK, providing tyres, mudguards, brakes etc in usable condition.

good point, old plated road trailer, 10 mile journey to do

Red grease is synthetic and superior in every way to regular lithium grease except price.

yes, if it keeps my bearings going after being in salt water then that's def worth the cost
i have removed the dust guards on both sides of the bearings, as they are not water proof anyway
and inject red grease through a grease nipple in the external dustcap that sits over the bearing
