Boat is out of the water so I'm going to antifoul just the bits I can see and leave the rest until spring, will a can of antifouling paint go off once open? I'm just wondering if I can keep the rest as at £75 a tin I don't want to throw away what's left.

If there are no instructions on the tin I suggest you search on the internet for the manufacturers data sheet.

The data sheet says it has a shelf life of 5 years but makes no mention of an opened tin. I'm going to use about half the tin and wanted to use the rest in the spring when the boat is out again.

It may depend on the make of a/foul, but I have used Seajet Shogun the following year when I had a lot left over with no apparent ill effect. Main thing is to make sure the tin is well sealed, and then store it upside down, that way no evaporation can occur.

Seal the tin after use and it'll be ok for years.

I believe this is correct- leaving any paint open to air cause the carrying solvent to evaporate and skinning ( drying of the surface) occurs .All well if you seal the lid properly and it will be ok for a couple of years

Ive been boating well over thirty years and always done my own A/F.
Just stick the lid back on tightly and you won't have a problem. I often have left over paint which I keep until the following year with no problems at all.

Some antifoulings have a maximum time between applying and immersion. Best check that the datasheet and make sure you are not exceeding that.
