Clearing out my garage and found a new 5litre Quicksilver 2 stroke oil, it has been open and 2 litres left, no idea how old it is, so my question does this type of oil expire/degrade over time?

Plan to use it in my outboard.

I worked for Caltex Oil and one day watched them blend motor oil in an underground/floor level heated tank with an agitator: there were about 10 different ingredients one being "Lubrizol" and another was dye.

In an unrelated event I happened to mention to one of the "Technical" guys that I intended to use some old oil that was about 5 years old. He was alarmed and said not to do it as some of the chemicals would be "out of suspensions" by now.

But your oil is two stroke oil and that could be different. I can't imagine there would be so many additives.

Re: Two Stroke Oil Shelf Life. Motor oils typically have a shelf life of four to five years. There are several factors that can affect the life of oil, such as exposure to extreme heat temperature changes and moisture. It's better to store oil in its sealed container instead of opening it.Jun 25, 2016

NOTE:
Don't do what I did once. My (old) car needed oil and I didn't have the money to buy any so I thought I'd pinch some of my Son's oil that he used in his competition off road bike. When I poured it into the engine it was a bright yellow liquid (which surprised me) but put it down to being a high performance oil. After driving the car for a few miles I could smell the car from the driver's seat: it stank!.
I pulled up in the car park and a group of people congregated with concerned looks of their faces as they looked at my car. One guy did a big circle around my car to get to his (He must have thought
it was going to blow up). When I got home I had to drain the oil and replace it.
My son wanted to know what I had done with his ? and gasped "you didn't put it in your car did you"? (Of course I assured him I hadn't)
