Does my bum look big in this?

Sometime ago (October I think) I was posting questions about getting a bigger tender on the back of my V40. Could not decide what to do - Avon 310 seemed too big, so did Valiant 300 etc etc. Well, I finally settled on a Avon 280 with Jockey console and Mercury 10. It weighs about 109kg (without the fuel tank) and the passerelle handles it OK (rated at 110kg!). Performance of the V40 does not seem to be effected at all, but I do need a bit more trim tab to keep the nose down.

The RIB itself is loads of fun and goes like diarrhoea off a shiny stainless steel shovel! There is still plenty of room to get on and off. But I think it still looks a bit big...what do you think?

Are you sure it is really 109kg. I have an Avon 3.10 and Evinruide 9.9hp. The whole lot weighs 100kg.

I'm told the console and remote control kit weigh 12kg. I guess that could account for some of the difference. Fact is I've not weighed it myself so I don't really know for sure. I'd be happy if it's all lighter.

Looks fine. Whats the dinghy sitting on because it must overhang the bathing platform? Like the burgundy hull of the V40. Much classier than boring old blue

Aahh yes, the burgundy is looking particularly stunning these days - no loss of lustre.

The RIB is sitting on 3/4 beam chocks (for an old Valiant 270). It fits, but I'm looking to have these updated - any tips on who could supply profiles for an avon 280 would be appreciated. (no response from Avon themselves yet).

I think it looks great - not too big at all. Imagine how stupid my Zodiac 285 looks on a Sealine S24! If I want to keep it inflated I have to stick it on the foredeck which I hate the look of, not too mention that I can't see where I'm going when sitting at the helm. Though hopefully it'll look a bit more to scale when the new toy arrives.

It looks fine (and that's from a Sealine owner!) How do you get on stern-to docking with the tender in the way. When docking stern-to we are all over the bathing platform. I would like to have a similar arrangement but have been put off because of the potential docking difficulties....perhaps you have the answer??
Does your passarelle have a holding rail?

Avon ought to be able to supply you a chock profile CAD drawing, as they emailed one to me for a 320 recently. Beware however, I made the chocks from this drawing and the boat didn't quite fit - the Vs were not deep enough in the chocks so the boat wobbles a bit, so I'm having to remake them. I dunno if the drawing was a bit out or if I cocked something up.....

No, it wasnt the one with the knackered engines although I did make an offer on that boat but the owner didnt seem to appreciate the fact that the offer was £50k less than his asking price to cover rebuilding both engines and some other cosmetic repairs. Actually this was a bit of a relief for me as I was not really up for a 'project' and I only made the offer because SWMBO was so keen on the boat
So, I did the sensible thing and bought something newer. For the picture, I had SWMBO drive the boat past the San Antonio headland whilst I cliff dived off the top. During the 400' drop I had time to take several photos but this was the only one that came out. I suppose hitting the water at terminal velocity didnt do the old box brownie any good. Odd though how similar the picture is to the one on the Azimut website

Before you change anything - consider adding some rubber to the outer areas of the chocks to deepen the vee and protect the hull. I've just got some strips cut to size supplied from Seals-Direct.

I always park like that. The tender plays no part as an obstruction. I often go solo and it's still easy to park - just step off to the side pontoon not the rear - don't necessarily try and get all the way back in - just to the mid-cleat on the finger pontoon.

PS. Did you used to have a Sealine called Arion II?
