She’s sometimes to be seen sailing a scow in Newtown Creek. She can launch from the end of her garden at HW.
That’s the dream right there (well unless newton creek is a muddy dilapidated creek). A house with a view of your boat sat on a mooring just off your garden and a dinghies for playing with on a sunny evening!

I will not be participating in this thread because for some reason that Admin or mods refuse to divulge via pm my OP was removed by a mod in the early wee hours pending review by admin during working hours then replaced after review and I was told I had done nothing wrong and my requests for explanation led no answers or discussion and simply called it a “non event”. I am finding this forum difficult to navigate therefore and the policing of it is not explained when requested politely. Shame.

About twenty years ago she was going to move to Skye. She bought a plot within a couple of miles of my place, but never developed it. It's now a rather nice little patch of birchwood.

I’m not a moderator and didn’t report your OP, but it did seem a bit creepy to me. A thread about the sort of sailing professional racing skippers end up doing once “retired” could have been interesting, but the entire way you worded your OP was odd. Moderators on many fora don’t justify their decisions, it’s a thankless task, if you don’t like their style you don’t need to post.

Would you mind explaining how my wording was odd and creeping please? I am shocked anyone could think such a thing and cannot fathom what was creepy. The admin team deemed thought there was nothing wrong with the post and called the reporting of it a non-event so perhaps some people have minds or thoughts that work in ‘different’ ways from mine shall we say. I was simply interested if she still sailed for fun.

I don't think if you've gone back and read post 1 and the thread title and thought it was normal that there's anything I am going to be able to explain. Now an old boss of mine used to say "Perception is reality" - you may not have intended it like this, but if people perceive it as such, then it is. But I'll try:

Perhaps if you imagine substituting a minor female celebrity (say a singer) who was at her career peak 20 yrs ago and was now retired as a professional singer working in the charity sector and helping unlucky youngsters whilst pursuing some other business interests. Along come you saying "I've heard she lives on the isle of wight" anyone any gossip? anyone seen her around? does she still sing as a hobby.

I don't think its a secret she's based on the IOW - but asking where people see her etc, is not far off what young people call Doxxing. I'm sure you don't see it that way, and presumably the mods decided that wasn't the direction the thread was going in, but sometimes I think people post on here whatever comes in their head without thinking about the fact that the topic of their discussions are actually human beings too. In the case of sailors - people who might even see the threads!

I re-read my post many times to find fault. It is all in your head I am afraid. Very sad. (and I did not ask WHERE she sailed merely if she sailed for pleasure) - you made that up. And perception is not reality….. ridiculous statement.

@ylop is right, I’m afraid, in matters like this perception is reality, at least in the mind of the reader who takes exception to your wording. I am not the one who reported you, I hasten to add.
Could it be the ’pure gossipy interest’ phrase that caused irritation, or do I as non native speaker misinterpret that? This forum and its moderators have become very suspicious of anything that might even remotely look like a statement about which a lawyer might write them a letter

Yes, perception may be reality in the mind of the reader. The reader may be insane for all I know. The statement is ridiculous however. So the readers that took exception have strange perceptions (and false ones) and must by the definition touted strange realities. There are weird people out there , I know I am not one of them.
I am out and refuse any more bait. What a bunch of nonsense. As admin said ‘non event’.

Moderation is a thankless job and most of the good work they do is invisible. Usually there's a set of guidelines that are agreed, any posts/threads that sail close to the wind get locked for a second pair of eyes to look at and a collegiate decision made. In this case they've decided your thread is on the right side of the line, but I can certainly see why it needed a think - especially as English law in this area has recently changed.

What moderators rightly won't do is to engage in an argument about what those guidelines are or to say exactly what falls on the line - to do so only encourages bad faith actors to try to argue or manipulate their way around them. I'd cut them some slack.

Well it’s not ALL in my head; but the actual purpose of your thread is still a puzzle!

No you told us where she lived! Thats creepy!
And perception is not reality….. ridiculous statement.
It will be if the mods perceive your post is over the line next time!

We all think that!

You were the one who made it a “thing”. Perhaps someone reported it, perhaps the moderator themselves saw it, they hid it temporarily and put it back in the morning. You asked for an explanation, a POSSIBLE version of which I provided, and you then proved exactly why mods don’t waste their time discussing this stuff, and that you weren’t really interested in how your post MIGHT have been perceived (and presumably how to avoid stressing the volunteer mods in the future) but were in fact having a not very subtle moan about the moderation approach. That might get you banned!

Agreed, ’pure gossipy interest’ is the sort of thing that has drifted into stalking in people of obsessive traits. Thus I recognise how it can invoke feeling it's creepy. The fact that the OP is not weird does not impact on that.
