Hi All,
I am going to change the name of the boat (I have read the do's and dont's, the fact that it has to be unique and inoffensive, and the ceremonies to the Neptune and the rest of the sea gods) as the current name is strongly linked to the previous owner and doesn't really mean anything to me, so I am renaming her.
Will the registration number change when I submit the new name ?

cheers,
Ben

Changed mine at the beginning of the year. Send your £12 to the good people in Cardiff and its done ... No change in SSR No, Easy

I changed the "official" name of my boat last year along with changing the ownership details - £12 to the nice people at the MCA - same SSR number and call sign.

Very important - If you have not changed the ownership details in the SSR yet you can save £12 by changing the ownership details first THEN change the name. If you change the name than change the ownership details it will cost £12 for each change.

When I did mine I called the MCA and spoke to someone in the SSR who explained all to me and even checked the validity of the proposed new name before I tried to make the changes on the website.

Depends if you are SSR or Part One Registered. Certainly for Part One, the number stays the same, but you have to go through all the hoops with the MCA about change of ownership, coupled with the name change notification. When we bought our Storm and changed the name it was a bit of a fiddle but worked OK.

Re. SSR I'm not sure. If it is possible to keep the same number would think it obvious that you notify them of the name change, otherwise , if your boat gets nicked they will be looking for the wrong name.

I expect that both methods will incur a charge, the Part One levy is quite substantial.
