Does Back Pain effect your ability to go boating?

Spinal Manipulation Therapist. Not an osteopath, chiropractor nor physiotherapist. I don't wish to advertise on this forum, but just help the one third of the population who, at this moment, are suffering back pain by giving useful information. All the details and info can be found by reading twice the full content of whysuffer.co.uk .

I have to say watching my father do things and get bad back taught me not to do the same.

I keep my muscles warm and for big task start slowly. Standard advice for climbers and not as some suggest new fangled whimsy. I can still at nearly 70 shovel tons of soil and rubble better than many half my age. I may ache but I dont put my back out. The only time it happened was when I sneezed violently and I hardly expected that so could not prepare. So vests and adequate clothing may not help sciatica but solves many issues.

Of course. Tell us, you put 'DO. FHSMS. LVMC.' after your name. I was having trouble Googling what any of these three stands for? I'm sure it's my search skills. Are they qualifications, or memberships of something, or what?

DO - Diploma in Osteopathy
FHSMS - Fellowship of the Henderson School of Manipulative Surgery
LVMC - Licentiate of the Victoria Massage Clinic

But essentially all they are, are bits of paper proving one attended a course. Reputation is the best ever accolade. Doing lots of different courses on various complementary subjects tends to open ones mind as to how the body actually ticks and functions on a level the doctors can't quite comprehend beyond the purely anatomical. It is all connected. If I thump my heel on your big toe, your mouth is going to open!
But rather than play around with a symptom, just find the cause and fix it asap.

The simplistic approach beloved of engineers and other simple folk. I wonder how many human bodies you have dissected.

This is a typical condescending comment. If an engine is not running right it is because the interaction of all the components is not at its optimum and some 'fixing/tweaking' is required. You don't necessarily need to have all the bits laid out on the bench. Or if you consider all the effects and consequences of loosing air out of your car tyre, steering , braking etc. and the investigations that could ensue at great expense. Then consider that the simple answer to the real cause is - fix the hole in the tyre. It is not rocket science like some would like to have us believe.
Unfortunately most in the medical profession are such sore losers and like to belittle anything they don't agree with.

The difference is that members of the professions require evidence and are unlikely to assume that because 50,000 patients have not returned this is evidence that they have all been cured.

Don't try and judge me with your skewed and blinkered thinking. My evidence is different and comes from the word of mouth reputation I have.
I also never have said that I 'cure' patients.
Let's end this now, you think what you like, and I'll just keep sorting patients recommended to me by extremely grateful patients who are as disparaging about the medical professions attitude to back pain as I am.

Bollix. You started this thread then used it to pitch your wares and your website. You have no meaningful qualifications but are prattling on as if you are a qualified practitioner. Your evidence is nothing more than anecdote from your "50,000 pain-free" customers.
I say customers rather than patients, as 50k in 44 years over 220 working days a year is 5 new patients a day, never mind follow up treatments. So I presume you're talking about hits on your website, because I simply don't believe you've actually treated that many people. Reading a badly-worded, evidence free website is not a treatment.
You defend any questioning of your capabilities, expertise or qualifications with bog-standard conspiracy theory defences - big medicine is protecting its racket and is closed to new ideas - and deny the rationality of evidence-based medicine because you have no evidence. And no, an n=1 anecdote is not evidence, nor does word of mouth have any evidentiary status.
It is not skewed and blinkered thinking to not want to put ones health in the hands of an unqualified faith-healer.
So, yes, let's end it now, with you taking you ads for your snake oil elsewhere. This is a sailing forum, and not a place for a quack to quack.

It’s far, far worse than that. He doesn’t show anecdotal evidence from 50,000 anything. He shows anecdotal evidence from himself. The 50,000 claimed patients are silent on the matter.

The Biblical ‘miracle’of feeding the 5,000 would be based on some reasonable evidence if we had 5,000 people’s reports of what happened. We don’t. We have one author’s report that 5,000 people were affected. That’s very different evidence.

Agreed, which is why I put the 50,000 in quotes. I'm pretty sure n=1 and I give it no more credence than the biblical fairy tales.

http://bfy.tw/KLIV Oh damn, well that Henderson School doesn’t seem to exist.

http://bfy.tw/KLIb Strangely no evidence of that Victoria Massage Clinic either.

I wonder where Angus Brazenall got his Diploma in Osteopathy from then...? That’s a real thing, but a four-year course, and Brazenall is very dismissive both of such training courses and of osteopathy itself.

It only gets better... 20 Lanark Road, Garrion Bridges, where all those ‘patients’ are treated? Here it is: https://goo.gl/maps/2ViyR4XCEx92

I think that your reasoning is a little out of kilter. Training establishments don't last for ever and google maps is 7 years out of date. If you consider how stupid the average person is, then consider that half of them are more stupid than that. Choose your own category!

Of course, Gus. What an interesting line of questioning! Personally, I am undoubtedly in the category of lower than average intelligence. But I think that was your point - so we agree!

No, I guess nothing lasts for ever. Though I wonder if you were ever awarded that Fellowship you claim of that school of surgery? Would be embarrassing to be unmasked as having faked it, I guess. Oh, and your claimed Diploma in Osteopathy: tell us - who awarded you that?

And Google Maps? Perhaps some of its imagery is 7 years out of date as you suggest. But that image of your address isn’t - as the watermark on it shows. That is where all these ‘patients’ visit you, right? By all means show us otherwise.

And the 50,000 patients you claim? That’s just a fraud. Challenge me to publish the evidence if you like.

There is enough suffering in this world without charlatans exploiting the more gullible of the afflicted for their own gain.

It is quite obvious that you have a major grievance you wish to express and perhaps you should be seeking help. I do not need to prove anything especially to a Troll who can produce such a vindictive diatribe. You have my sympathy for your affliction. Moderators please take note!

Another interesting and potentially useful thread ruined by the fall into vituperation and personal abuse. Take it to the Lounge why don't you?

No one with the surname Brazenall is registered with the General Osteopathic Council.
"The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) regulates the practice of Osteopathy in the United Kingdom. By law Osteopaths must be registered with the GOsC in order to practice in the UK"

Quite correct. I was looking at patient safety. Which statutory authority are you registered with? I chose Osteopathy as you have a DO but you choose not to register. Who sets your professional standards, your CPD requirements, to whom would a patient go to with a complaint?
You can offer Architectural Services yet not be an Architect, many people do. You can be a Foot Health Practitioner and have no training to speak of. Regulation is there to protect the public. Who regulates what you do.
