Hi folks

Snow Goose Drascombe Drifter - Emsworth

If anyone knows the owners of this boat - moored in the Emsworth Channel, could they let him know that his mizzen sail had come unfurled in the wind yesturday - I stopped and refurled it and tied it off, but it may be prudent for him to check its safe and secure.

Thanks

I'm so glad that thanks have already been expressed for such a kind act. It is not always the case.

I've been a member of our sailing club for far too many years now and most of the boats in the yard have props and wedges stolen from my mate's boat (with the name on them!). Twice we rescued the rig of one boat on the moorings during inclement weather. Once his forestay snapped and the mast was only standing due to the spinnaker halyard, loosely attached to the pulpit. We boarded despite the gale and jury rigged the stay with spare wire and clips from our own boat. The second time, the tensioner on the split backstay fell apart allowing the mast to pump alarmingly - again we reapaired it with spares of our own. Eventually we met him when he usurped our pre-booked lift out. I'm glad to say that the committee suggested he found a new mooring as his renewal would not be accepted. We never got our spares returned.

It's a state of mind, though, to help others and although I have an unprintable way of referring to the above owner, I am still happy to lend a hand or offer advice to anyone in a fix. I think the least welcome was advising a guy to use a sledge hammer (and drift) to budge a seized Blakes seacock. His mate did it while his back was turned! Two months experience of trying to do the same, you see.

Rob.

Yes, I will pass your message on to him, many thanks :)

Now e-mailed :), the Drifter is called Wild Goose and the owner is a man of the cloth so he will be embarrassed for not looking after that part of the boat :D. Throw your mizzen in the cabin David, much safer ;)

Thanks again Northwind on Davids behalf...
