Apart from the official tourist stuff? We're going there for a couple of weeks' of boaty work between next week-ish and Easter, so if any forumite can recommend any watering holes accessable fromt he water that might be open at this time of year, I'd be terribly grateful.

First thing about Norway is to forget pubs (outside the big cities and towns). Buy beer and cider in supermarkets and drink onboard. Otherwise bring wine and spirits with you.

Eating out and drinking in Norway very expensive and the locals tend to visit each other instead. The scenery in Sogn is amazing, mind the car ferries crossing the fjord, the fast ferries running in and out and the cruise ships with their paparazzi like passengers.

Many hotels in Sogn will have their own quaysides or pontoons but as I said you're wallet will be a lot lighter when you return onboard!

Expect it to look like this:

Thanks. We'll be joining a ship out there, sadly working not sailing, so were planning to take our own spirits, I understand it's even more expensive than Reykjavik. The impression is that most places are closed for the winter, but I wondered if anyone knew different.

Easter is a big holiday time for the locals throughout Norway. Most will escape to the mountains and so hotels and restaurants may well be open again.

Sailed on friend's boat in Sognefjord many years ago (13 maybe). We were fairly self sufficient so didn't go partying on shore very often, but best value meal for eating out is breakfast - vast cold table, all you can eat, and for a small supplement, you can make up a lunch pack to take away
