It's a long shot but in the mid 80's i went to the Cows sailing week with my school , one of the instructors there was called Robin and we kept in touch for a while after as i was very keen on boating . He sent me and my family tickets to LIBS a few years later and i think he had something to do with the show . He also took part in racing but i cant find the photos he sent me telling me the name of the yacht and what races they where /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif . Maybe he is a forumite ? Or someone knows him ? I just wanted to say hello again and thank him for showing me how to throw money hand over fist into the water /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think he was part of the training school there for a few years as i remember writing to him and sending the letters to the IOW . The pictures i cant find was of a yacht with over ten people onboard , maybe that was the team and not the crew ?

He race single handed, but did anything to raise money for the Whitbread, not sure were he was before I meet him late 80's at Mylor.
He worked on a freighter down the Falklands, in the Gulf during the Iraq / Iran war putting out oli tanker fires and towing them in.
When he first got the boat in the water he decided he needed a shakedown trip, either South Africa or the West Indies, me I am happy to do Fowey.
He wrote a book on trips round the World in the Whitbread, and turning back in the South Ocean to pick up a compeditor that was dismasted.
Last heard of doing talks in the USA, try web search on Robin Davey, and his boat was either 002 or later renamed Cornwall in the Whitbread.
