Does anyone know Puerto Sherry?

I need a medium term berth in the Cadiz area from next week. I've managed to speak to people at most of the marinas and the general story is that there are only short term berths available before September. I haven't managed to speak to Puerto Sherry (they don't answer their phone) but it seems to be the biggest marina in the area so I'm pinning everything on them having a berth. If I turn up there and there is nothing then I'm well and truly stuffed because I have to get back to the UK promptly. Does anyone know how full Puerto Sherry gets in August? Any other bright ideas?

I'd suggest you post this query in Mobo and scuttlebutt forums, as many of the people who have knowledge post there, and don't read here very often.
 
I keep my boat in Puerto Sherry. Until recently there has been plenty of space but it is now looking rather full. However, as you note, its a big marina and I would expect them to be able to fit you in somewhere. Many of the Spanish boats take off for summer cruises during July & August so there might be more room. I've never had any problems getting through to them on the 'phone (+34 956 87 01 03). Try between 12 and 1pm UK time.

Other places to try in the area are the marinas in Rota, Chipiona and Cadiz and the yacht club in El Puerto de Santa Maria. Further afield is Mazagon (north), Barbate (south) and Gelves (up the river in Seville).

Chipiona good, Rota good, El Puerto - lots of wash from fishing vessels, but otherwise very pleasant. Barbate I thought was very unappealing. Just turn up, stay for a couple of days, then ask to extend. Whenever I've tried to book ahead it's been impossible; yet when I've turned up I've never been turned away. In Nazare last week, I was offered a berth for a month and told that Lisbon marinas were full. I got to Lisbon, and there was plenty of space. It's very worrying when you've got to get back (as I usually have to), but nowadays I just turn up. Good luck.
 
Please see my post under topic Cadiz Bay Marinas. When telephoning ask for Antonio or Isobel who speak good English, always room for 10-12m craft ( as advised last week by above) 15m and abovegetting tricky, but you would always get in.
