I am in the process of refurbishing an LM28 and there are a few areas I wish to smarten up such as the sections under the decks in the cockpit and the lockers. Years and years ago it was quite common for boatbuilders to use a multifleck paint to coat the interior of the GRP with this type of paint.

Any suggestions as to any company who may be able to supply this type of product.

McPherson's Portaflek was in very common use about 10 years ago but I haven't seen it recently. Perhaps it fell out of use because of the move away from VOCS. The fumes were very powerful.

This product was re-branded into Crown Colorfects, but this has now been discontinued since Akzo Nobel purchased Dulux and sold off Crown. As far as I know Crown wanted to keep the production but were not allowed the right so you will not be able to purchase in this country.

But there should be others. Hard-wearing, hides dirt.

Go to an automotive body shop supplier. They will get or mix to match what you need. It’s what they do.

It was quite common in public toilet, public showers and pedestrian underpasses etc. I assume it was easy to clean but did not show the dirt. I recall it alway looking 'green' and not very attractive!

Maybe ask your local council (or someone who works for same).

I confess I have not noticed it being used more recently - maybe its gone out of fashion or been replaced by something better (the technology is quite old).

I used mcphersons portflek many years ago in my paint finishing company, once used it in my house when i had 4 kids, playroom mushroom coloured base, hall way and stairs light green base, dining room wedgewood blue with white do do rail, radiators and pipes disappeared, kids hands ,ink, dirt, paints wiped off,and with stood knocks ......i liked it, ?

I knew it as Portaflek and used as internal finish on GRP kiosks probably still is. It's factory applied with a spray gun though which would be difficult inside a boat.

Thanks for all the replies. Think this is a lost cause it looks as if it has been banned due to the solvents. Think I will just stick to McPherson's Tartan Paint.

To get that dotted splatter effect.
Paint the wall with the first colour. Then mix the second colour in the can, whilst gripping it between your feet, with a stirrer in an electric drill. Withdraw the stirrer without turning off the electric drill !!!
Works a treat with antifoul paint up ones trouser legs, so might work up the walls- & doors, & everything else!!!!!!
