Does anybody sail Mirror dinghies anymore?

Left over from the boat jumble was a Mirror rudder and tiller and extension. I put in on ebay for £3 to RNLI, had 9 watchers and no bids. It's now on the forum sale board. Presumably the watchers were all peeps who have them for sale too!

I don't like to chuck it on the tip and I don't want to keep it. What shall I do with it :confused:
 
Don't chuck it. I am happy to give the RNLI a fiver to have a spare for our Mirror if that is your best offer. We are at Woolverstone / Shotley, we use our Mirror regularly to sail all the way from RHYC to the ice cream shop at Pin Mill (really the gallery & tea shop but the children have only noticed the freezer).

Excellent news.

I have the spinnaker pole from that dinghy if you need a spare.
I have a half formed plan to add a kite to my Walker Bay 8, but I will prob not get round to it this millenium.

I am sure Roger will arrange a suitable transport.

Marvellous - I would just hate to chuck it. Now I just need to get it you. Hmmmm. Let me know where you live - send a PM :)
 
FC - we are not yet in need of a spare pole but i can imagine the scenario in which one leaves the boat when i am not expecting it to. I am happy to hoover up useful spares if people really don't want them in exchange for supporting the lifeboats.
 
FC - incidentally - did you have to replace your plastic gooseneck on the WB8? If so did you find a standard (ie cheaper) metal fitting that did the job. Ours is on its last legs.

No, havent managed to break it yet. If it does, I guess I will look at the rowlock style of thing that the Topper and Pico use. I have spare rowlocks and a rivetting gun.:rolleyes:
 
My brother sails one, as well as a laser at the RHYC.

These little Mirror things, are they big enough for the modern average sized adult to sail? I've been tempted to have a go myself, to play about with sail control etc.
 
Yes, they are a good size for an adult on their own or more commonly for an adult and young child combination. We have had two of us and two small children in ours frequently, which does get a bit cozy. With over 70,000 of them around there are lots of scruffy cheap ones around!

Thanks for that. I've seen a few go for fairly modest money. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a little winter 'project'
