/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gifIf correct its fantastic that diesel will get 5% Vat instead of 17.5% Vat. I think this will go a long way to hold the deferential between diesel and petrol boats of around £10,000

I do hope so, I didn't buy my boat as an investment, it is indeed a toy, but a lot of money is tied up in her never the less.

For the next couple of years at least the economic slow down is going to knock all boat values IMHO. Certainly the fact that from 1/11 many of us will be paying less than £1/l rather than the £1.50 forecast a few months back is clearly going to help support values to a degree, but overall the market is oversupplied with boats.

Received a letter from MDL today. According to this their charge will be 99ppl based on today's price (quoted as 74ppl) and the 'default' 60/40 declaration. The 10% berth holder discount still applies, so 89ppl on 1/11.

I had my letter from MDL as well. Really useful Q&A I thought, however one point had me puzzled:
Q What is the rate of VAT?
A VAT will be charged at 5% for both propulsion and domestic use up to 2300 litres, thereafter VAT will be charged at 17.5%.

I've not heard of this before. It doesn't say what period the 2300 lites is meant to cover, per year, per transaction???
Does this also apply to heating oil used at home?

Anyone able to clarify this?

Its the same limit as has always applied - over 2300 litres in a 24hour period and you should get charged the full VAT rate. I don't know whether it applies to heating oil, sorry.
