The Cranchi is laid up with transom problems at the mo, so i bought a little runabout so I could go swimming and pottering about.
Its about 15ft with a Honda 25 electric start, trim ajustment, but tiller steering. The boat would get up on the plane but it took a while, bow in the air etc. The reason is, too much weight at the stern, battery, fuel tank, engine and me, I altered the weight around, shoved the Mrs up to the bow, slight improvement, but it was either flat out or dropping off the plane, not much flexibility in between.
I have been known to be a bit of a cheapskate but, I lashed out and bought an Attwood gullwing hydrofoil, I raised the engine an inch and fitted this thing, easy to fit, only four holes to drill and it bolts on. What a difference it makes! getting onto the plane is instant, no bow in the air, just straight up onto the plane. Top speed seems about the same at 19 knots but I can slow down to about 11knots and still not drop off the plane as I did before, turns seem smoother, so does the ride, the engine even seems quieter, not working as hard as before. I am very pleased the way this thing works, cash well spent IMHO.
You can buy these things for the 290 leg, as the Cranchi is also stern heavy, I am having serious thoughts about fitting one on that, dont know if anyone else has tried one, but it may be worth a shot.

I had them on my oold dinghy, on a 30hp yam, worked a treat made a huge difference to the planing ability. I will be fitting a set to this dinghy as well.

Beware of following seas, if you are going slowly. Waves really do pick up the device and hence the stern, and broaching is a distinct possibility if you don't react quickly.
(This is advice for novices rather than an old salt such as yourself, Sir. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )
