Dodgy Fan Heater(s)

One way of stopping a fan heater cutting out on overheat is to operate it on a lower power setting.
Mine has 2 controls, one is the thermostat and the other is off, fan(cold), I and II heat settings.
I think the I and II are 1kw and 2kw respectively.

For frost control in the engine bay I always set it to heat setting I, for several reasons.

One is that it reduces chances of it getting too hot and cutting out on overheat.
Secondly it reduces the chances of the element burning out because it's running cooler
Thirdly it circulates the air for longer before the frost stat kicks in, thereby making a more even temperature in the engine bay (avoiding cold or hot spots)
Fourthly it reduces electrical demand, and surge demand on the mains supply so reducing stress on electrical connections & supply. Therefore less chance of tripping the supply.

A friend of mine has a fixed installed towel heater and keeps this one going over the winter. His wife likes it too on cold summer days.
