do a search here and on scuttlebut for 'documents' and you'll turn up lots of stuff.

in short:

passports
registration cert

those are the essentials. you might possibly be asked for:
proof of ownership (if not part 1 registered)
3rd party insurance cert (with spanish translation)
vat receipt for boat
cert of competence (ICC) esp if going on inland waterways
radio licence (for you and boat)

Have a look at Medman's site.

Loads of great info about ports on route, well worth a look. Not sure if he has any info on documentation though.

Hope this helps

Cheers

If bought from a broker your Bill of sale could show the VAT element, but take it anyway. Infour years have only ever been asked for Passport and SSR certificate and insurance certificate once. Have copies of each, and laminate them as you could well end up producing them at a lot of marin offices if your trip takes longer than you expect.

In Gib, personaly I prefer Marina Bay, next door to Shepherds.

South cost of Spain for over wintering then Almerimar or Aguadulce are the cheapest BUT you need to book early as there are VERY VERY few berths available anywhere in Spain for boats over 10 mtrs.

Next to the already mentionned (passports, etc.) I would not sail the Med without "Votre Livre de Bord" of the year.
This book gives advice on everything you need to know, from regulations to phone No, of many, many marinas, as well as light's caracteristics for the entirety of the western bassin including Malta and Tunisia.
All of it updated twice a year.
And all this for a mere 20 euros, and an additional 10 euros for the may update.

I sheltered last week at Formentera, and found - to my surprise - that the marina was half empty, and the management making good offer for winter berthing.
May be a better (cheaper) idea than Gib.

Don't hesitate to PM for more info.

You will need:

1. Ship's registration documents
2. All crew passports (I'd suggest making a reduced colour photocopy of the last two pages of your passport, credit card sized, encapsulated), such identity cards are welcomed in continental Europe as a sign of incipient Brit sanity.
3. Your radio-operator's certificate.
4. An ICC, preferably with inland waterways endorsement or you might find yourself slapped with a Douanier on-the-spot fine in the Gironde.
5. Flag warrant (if you have one)
6. UK RCA licence (I've never heard of anyone being done, but in International law you lose your MMSI, callsign and permission for all radiotelegraphy gear if you don't have it).
7. Form E111 - which allows you to claim medical treatment in EU countries.
8. A photocopy of your insurance certificate with a letter from your broker/insurer in Spanish & French confirming you have at least £2 million 3rd party cover (£3 million is the standard).
9. Proof of VAT payment on the boat, or of its pre-VAT provenance. A letter copy from the UK Customs & Excise is probably the "best" proof.

You would be well advised to have:
1. A € bank account, with a debit card. Pay into it by cheque in £ and you'll save between 8-5% on using your UK credit card and even more for drawing cash.
2. A "reserve" credit card, for when every thing gets stolen/lost.

Hope this helps.

As regards the other question it's so large as to be unanswerable, but apart from the Votre Livre en Bord: Mediterranée, which is detailed and accurate on French coasts but very hit-and-miss elsewhere: the individual Imrays RCC Pilots give very good, detailed infornmation - these are far more detailed than any other information source but far more expensive.
Look on www.imray.com for a full list - they can usually be purchesed from amazon.co.uk for about an 8% discount.
Alternatively, become a member of the CA and get the best, most current information from the library, MedNet (see david I do plug you) and members.

Perhaps if you were to venture an idea of your proposed itinerary you might get more, if conflicting, information.

PS IMHO, Gibraltar is an expensive, uncomfortable hole. I'd start by thinking of somewhere else to overwinter (unless you have to find an English-speaking place)
