Do you use Spray Dodgers?

On the other hand

I thought it looked to be looking towards High Street/Troutbeck.

Yep, we use dodgers and like them. After a previous similar thread I tried without for a while and decided that we were better with than without.

There's a set of dodgers in one of the lockers aboard Brigantia which we've never got around to trying and haven't really missed. New pride and joy has dodgers set up, interested to see whether we like 'em or take 'em off

Dodgers occasionally come off in the summer as they're not really necessary and it's a good time to clean them. But for anyone who sails all year round they are a big plus for keeping off the wind chill when the temperature drops...

We use dodgers, they keep some of the draughts out of the cockpit and reduce the spray somewhat, we also have some handy pockets which fit inside them to take all sorts of kit and sustenance ready to hand.

What we don't do is have our sprayhood up when under way. Perhaps it is a hangover from being a long term keelboat/dinghy sailor, but I like to see where I am going and feel the wind in my face. The spray hood is only deployed if we are motoring and it is p**ing down. The sprayhood is for harbour use only.

The range runs High Street, Froswick, Ill Bell then Yoke which is off the picture but is to the right. Its off the picture partly because the point of the picture was my beautiful self, combined with Lakey not having his 180 degree lens about his person on the day in question

I am 'guilty' of everything. Have dodgers 'all round' and sprayhood fixed. Added security and peace of mind with occasional children on board. I sail solo the majority of times and like the enclosed feeling of my cockpit, also as mentioned, the handy pockets. I can stand for hours on end and can see over hood, although windows are kept fairly clear if needed. I can sit resting on lines, extension to hand and still have clear view of dinghys and seals.
One of my greatest pleasures is sitting out in the evening, at anchor, little table in situ, glass of wine in progress, but sheltered from the prevailing wind. Last boat had a boom-tent, but thats a bit tricky with short boom.
I suppose I enjoy privacy, without being unsociable. (My neighbour, who regularly has dinner-parties in his garden, wanted to cut the hedge down from 6ft to 3ft. I told him he may not like my naked yoga exercises (not true!))
We, like our boats are all different. I could never imagine sailing a Thames Barge with dodgers?

Have got dodgers and found them useful in outfalls and keep the cockpit dryer than without, have seen some folks with clear dodgers which would improve visibility and still keep wind and spray out, having installed additional blocks aft of the dodgers for my chute I am looking to change design to give more clearance for after blocks and may opt for a set of the clear ones.
