Do you use loadsa AA ( or AAA) cells ?

Shelf life for things which are not used often. For everyday items I agree entirely.

Hybrids keep their charge - about 75% after 6 months - they're more expensive than standard NiMH.

If you keep lots of throw-aways, as insurance, why not keep 20% of their # of rechargeables? One can get very effective 12v rechargers, as well as 230v ac.

I have a couple of cameras which will not work on rechargeables.

There are a few cameras that require the extra volts, and you really need to run those on lithium batteries as the 1.5v of alkaline ones are inadequate as well. I had a couple of Canon snap-shotters which were quite happy on 1.25v of rechargeables, though they only lasted for a short time compared to lithium AAAs.

Just found the tests I was looking for: http://www.batteryshowdown.com/

Well, it seems to show that Lithium comes out tops; alkaline second; and zinc-carbon third. Just as one would expect. Without a lot more information about their procurement/testing/analysis this article says nothing useful about any differences in brand performance.

I use loads of AAA procells in my torches at work, 10/15 per week, not as good as i would like, the Maplins are just over half the price of the procell, so have bought 100 to see how they compare.
The wireless mouse on my Imac sulks if you use anything less than Energizer Lithium!

I've given up on rechargeables. Even the hybrids never seem to be charged when I need them and the lower voltage means that many items don't work. I'm happy getting GP batteries from Budget Batteries at £6.95 for 24. Never leaked and holds charge well.
