I have all the logbooks at home. Since my first sailing course (CC circa 1980) I've only ever logged periods on board of over 24hours. The habit was started as I was aiming for my YM and that was the advice I was given by my instructor. Personally I reckon i'd have been better writing up my daysails as well as the "log" is the only place I recorded engine hours. I was heartily shamed last year when a guy who went for a weekend trip to Cherbourg with me showed me his "journal" which included sighting the space station passing overhead, including the ships position at the time and two passable pencil sketches of Barfleur and Cherbourg Harbour. I didn't even realise he was drawing at thew time.
