The larger the yacht, the higher the windows - so high that apart from letting in light, they cease to have their panoramic quality.

I Love looking out of my Leisure 23 windows when we are sat at the dinette, or standing at the galley. You guys and gals with higher windows, don't you miss that?

I agree! You can see whats going on!A portlight let in by your navigation table below the eye level is realy fine.

A mobo said, and quite right he is "sailboat cabins are rather restrictive as they cant see out"

When visiting sailboats that are farless economicaly challenged im always impresed with the veiw,of the interior !!

NOTE:Ive replaced my water tanks i drank and it was not water!Im happy

I agree its realy great to have a veiw, thats somthing mostly only mobos have?!OR fast sailor crusers!

Poking around many of the bigger boats at LIBS, most had smaller windows at dinette height. The rest just seemed to be there to show you how hard the rain is falling....

Good point. We live on board and usually while we're sitting down we only look up through the main deck hatch where you frequently see rain or the dog doing its worst! I like the feeling of deck saloon boats but offshore maybe happier with ours - conventional cabin with fixed shelter to keep you dry while on watch as the Hydrovane does the business.

What I miss most on our old Ocean 30 is that the windows swing in only a few degrees at the top so in Summer it's bl**dy hot especially with a hot engine leaking ergs into the saloon. A previous boat had sliding windows, great, (although a nosy cow got its head stuck in one up above Oxford once, SWMBO nearly died!) so plenty of ventilation.

It is nice to be able to relax over a meal and watch the world go by though.

I'd never want to go back to a view of narrow strips of sky. Like most cats we have a near - 360° view when sitting in the saloon, in fact on one winter's day we all sat down to lunch while the autopilot took us the length of Loch Ness.

I hasten to add that I have autopilot controls within reach!

Best view I have ever had was in a Lagoon 40. Sitting in the (rather chilly) lounge, with the patio doors closed, running into a reasonable seaway, I could see almost all the way round the ocean to the horizon, with hardly any obstructions. One of the good points to this particular cat! Glad that someone else was steering though. Up there, exposed, and with very little to stop you falling backwards.

you have to give us the full story on this one /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifive had a chuckle allready at the mental picture conjured up. How did you get it back out?

Sat on the companion way step of my 22 footer I can see forward through the sloping forehatch and unless heeled then port and stbd through the saloon windows. As the boat sails itself with a bit of string holding the tiller a fraction to windward I can relax out of the wind while the kettle boils.very nice this time of year.
