Hi,

I am having a hard time with getting good customer service from my current Volvo dealer i.e. not ringing me back after calling (lost count), not getting a straight answer etc etc - however I think the engineers are okay, just the management.

Therefore do you know of a good Volvo Penta dealer that has given you good service within the Southampton area excluding RK Marine.

There are no good ones, well not from your point of view anyway. Theres dear ones and very dear ones. But there the ones that turn up.
Theres good ones from Volvo's point of view though. Like.
OH!! you need one of these and some of those.
And oh no, must be oil from special Volvo oil well or wont work!!
Then of course mechanics were never any good at diplomatic relations or else they'd be working for Tony Blair and not groveling about round engines.
Yer asking far to much of them. Or at least more than I can get out of them!!!

Richard I presume your engines are still in warranty, and youre on the Hamble, I am an engineer myself and have yet never heard a good word about the dreaded V But this is what I would do, ring volvo at watford tell them about all the crap they are giving you, then you might just get there.

I can see this post getting larger as we all must feel the same, I work on volvo engines a lot and see this red tape every day, once your engines are out of warranty then you dont need to buy all the genuine stuff.

Yes my engine is in warranty and scared stiff to touch it until the warranty expires (June'02). My boat is based on the Itchen River and out of interest is servicing something you could do for me after the warranty.

Do you know the number for Watford, I assume this is Volvo's head office.

Devil and deep blue sea springs to mind. i havent yet found a dealer that actually is any help unless you give them an open cheque along with a promise that if there isnt enough funds you will pawn the wife and kids! On a serious note the only affordable dealer that i have found is MMS at shepperton Middx. Note exatly local but they do ring back and will answer queries over the phone.

I suspect that most people have a gripe / horror story to tell about any V dealer, but I must say I have no probs at all with SAL, Lymington - 01590 679588 - (Simon is Officer in Charge) who have looked after my boat's engines for 5 years, now.

once you\'re out of warranty...

I can recommend T.S. Marine based on the Hamble (Universal Marina)

Tel nos are 01489 581030 and mobile 07775 672682 - I've been using Scott Sandford for over two years now and had no complaints with any of his work on my Volvo engines (firstly petrol/outdrive then diesel on shaft)
 
Ebbtide, just outside entrance to Shamrock Quay.

Used by friend who pretty average at engineering himself.

Not certain they are Volvo agents. May be general engineers.
 
Re Another SAL vote

Would agree with Piers that SAL in Lymington are good. They're official Volvo. Not cheap (I put some costs in Nick's post last week) but good. At the top of Lymington past the town quay
