There are three brand leaders among the video bloggers

These people get hundreds of thousands of hits on each film

they are well made films ... beautiful people, lovely boats and exotic locations

there is no doubt that attractive women help to generate hits

I would be curious to know what British sailors want from a sailing blog.

Here they are

this is white spot pirates - a pretty German woman sailing an aluminium boat she calls Karl

her highest hitting film is this one with 114,000 hits

then there is the market leader

three pretty girls who show their breasts on a nice white boat

this is their best hitting film with 2.5 million hits

then there is La Vagabonde - young aussie couple, very attractive girl, sailing a lovely boat in warm places - lots of swimming

630,000 on their best hitting film

Liked the White Spot Pirate:-

Spunky girl defied the ald Gravybeards on here, rescued a manky boat and sailed off. Great, but the best bit is over now.

Not seen the others:-

"three pretty girls who show their breasts on a nice white boat"

- but could well be having a look now

I would guess that they have to go off to earn some real money

I assume, due to the use of the music, that google youtube seizes all the adsense revenue - which woulkd be about $1 per thousand hits

they all use Patreon

White spot woman gets $800 per film from 150 patrons

naked breasts grinding winches gets $£4,700 per film from 500 patrons

and the aussie couple get

$2,500 per film from 300 patrons

I've been watching Sailing Uma recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAye0mf2A8g. I find it interesting and annoying in turn. Some of the filming is very imaginative - love the bit where she is on a dink on the first movie, but it's also very self-indulgent at times.

I have to hand it to them when it comes to the fitting out. They've taken on jobs that I would be petrified by with very little apparent background in boat maintenance. Hats off.

SV Delos I watch and think is a pretty good series. Seems well shot, good 'cast'! Another I like is followtheboat , again well made, interesting, good commentary. Whitespotpirates I think has lost the plot a little. Short films, not actually doing a lot in them. LaVagabond I've enjoyed watching but just starting to get a bit too commercial ,hopefully they'll ease off on that a bit.

Non are obviously a patch on some bloke who films about a small boat ditch crawling their way around the UK!

thanks for that - not fishing for compliments just trying to evaluate the competition

I noticed that in the TV item

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYdy9TjRzPc

they are going back to work to earn money for the next section

I don't think getting your breasts out would improve your videos.

generally speaking I have found that the more of me is covered the better the world looks

My legs are almost never seen out in public

it is interesting that the most viewed film I have on the ktl youtube space (candles aside) has my sons girlfriend standing on the foredeck

fully clothed

Never heard of any of them and I wish I hadn't still. These are the kind of self-publicists I can't stand. Thank goodness sailing only attracts the more motivated ones and the rest are still pulling pints/working as crew at festivals/framing their head Barista certificates while talking loudly about the planning of their as-yet-without-a-start-date transpacific epic. I want to see old blokes face terrible weather in crappy boats (will take two of the three). Take this thread to the lounge and I'll really say what I think :D :D

I think to be a reporter of any sort you have to have an ego otherwise you just would not do it

these people are self publicists but then there is not enough of a margin to pay some-one else to publicise your efforts.

The link between the advertiser who is taking space beside the films and the person who produces the films has been broken by google - I doubt that any of these film makers get much in the way of adsense revenue - hence the direct appeals of money to help make the films.

At first I found it deeply uncomfortable. When at Farmers weekly the advertisiers and subscriptions payed my salary - then the license payer coughed up under threat of imprisonment

this is now the age of twitter, crowd funding, patrons etc etc

people used to give me money for the dvds - now they get the dvd material for free and cough up voluntarily to keep the show on the road

so if these people can get people who wish to see nice suntanned girls sailing through sparkling water - and all the other excitement - then I am not sure there is anything wrong with that.

the good thing about these blogging sailors is that they are actually sailing - rather than dreaming about sailing from the serving side of a bar. They have saved money and bought themselves big boats. Goodonem I say.

Blogs are a bore. Who gives a flying fig that Joe Blogger had a barbecue on the beach or rewired the GPS or is waiting for a part for his shaver socket?

that is true - although I would qualify it with some blogs are a bore

the films posted above are generally well made, carefully thought out bits of video that have been well recorded, edited and mixed to tell a story by people who understand the medium and the market.

There are lots of blogs that are duller than a dull thing - but these are bright, shiny stories about young people enjoying their sailing.

Well I love hearing about other people's adventures and some of the photography in these things are excellent. They have continued to inspire me towards pointing my bow in the direction of greater adventure, challenges and fun. I like the ones where people potter around and discover things in a quiet way and I also like the ones where people push their limits crossing the Northwest passage with a leaky keel. They certainly beat watching Eastenders or other dross.
