U tube videos useful to learn stuff from?
I was talking to someone and they said they learnt most of what they know from u tubes videos about there hobby, So I had a look today on boaty stuff , and there was apart from YBW/Jon Mendez stuff, mainly seemed to be about American boating and sail boats. mm

Can't say I have learnt much from YouTube but the idea of instructional videos sounds good to me. Some sore of series/podcast would be something I would subscribe to and pay for.

You would have to redesign / reformulate your whole training syllabus to transfer it to 2D screen. As CAL, youtube is excellent, and could be very easily adapted to cover the shore syllabus of the RYA, plus a vary large amount of the theory of boat handling.

But then people like Chichester have already got the distance learning sewn up. What you are thinking of is how to put chunks of your practical teaching on to video for commercial reasons. I reckon visualisation as a 'game' is the way to go, rather than open source video.

Me too.. I needed to put some new brake pads in a friends Honda Civic. Went into you tube, watched a guy from the good old US of A doing them. Watched twice. Selected my 2 spanners, Sandpaper, and bungee required. Popped round to friends, Jacked car up. Twenty mins later I was inside tucking into a very nice Chardonnay.
I think I did it quicker than the You tube video. However I was aware of all the things that could have gone wrong, but luckily did nt..
Thing is with training is that. You can teach more or less anybody to perform a given task, but, and it is a big BUT. You can t teach experience!!!

YouTube is amazing - all sorts of stuff on there. It is one of the most useful bits of the Internet. Helped me out on several occasions.

Got quite a few You tube clips bookmarked and saved to my desktop for quick reference. Great memory joggers easily to hand.

It is very good for some stuff i learnt how to splice a loop on a dock line off youtube

Other thing with it though is that you start watching something then half hr later you are watching something that has nothing to do with the subject you started out on and you are on something completly different lol

I often do a search for videos after Googeling for something. Almost always get hits, sometimes meaningful or even great, but that said Youtube and other video sites also serve as the place people publish any rubbish under catching headlines. Often in a worse than bad quality, accompanied by soundtracks that make me love the mute button on my pc.

With Google it is a great benefit when you master the art of tweaking search arguments :D
