Since the advent of oven chips house fires have reduced dramatically. One of the reasons that the Fire Brigade is now accused of being overmanned. Deep fried chips are a luxury and we have them at home occasionally but done in a proper thermostatically controlled fryer. Have had oven chips on board and although not as good they are a passable substitute. Would never fry chips on board due to smell and grease everywhere, apart from the danger.

It was never the chip pan that was dangerous it was the person standing in front of it, or not standing in front of it more likely.

Am I the only one who cooked chips tonight?

Another vote here for the Tefal Actifry. Rather brilliant machines for cooking chips on board. Uses a tiny amount of oil and all the bits that need cleaning just click off and go in the dishwasher
