Hi
I am sailing to France this summer.
Do i need to get my liferaft serviced?
I do not feel the need to for safety reasons but want to comply with French law.
It is new as of 2016.

I have searched on here and gone down the rabbit hole on the web but cannot get a straight answer.

Thanks
S

The French have been blowing hot and cold on this for years. In theory they respect your flag state rules (which do not even require a liferaft) but have been known to insist (as they are entitled to) that if you have a raft and flares it should be in date. So not surprising you have ha difficulty in getting a definitive answer - even when this first came up about 10 years ago the TYA was unable to get a clear direction from the French. Given the increased potential hassle of visiting France makes sense either to leave the raft behind or get a new certificate.

Yep. Thanks. Thats another item on the To Do list.

As an MCA certified liferaft service station we have been led to believe the French would like you to have a raft onboard and preferably an ISO 9650-1 compliant one.
