Do I buy a .................

Our Kipor IG1000 has been running without issues for 6+ years now, always starts first time except when I've let it run dry (e.g. to prevent carb from clogging up over winter etc).

The benefit of Kipor is that they are cheap, common as chips, have loads of importers and parts are two a penny. The most likely and expensive thing to break is the inverter circuit board, not the engine. Servicing is easy and costs a few £ only. I don't expect the customer service that Honda etc might offer but, in practice, I've never needed any. It just works.

I've never had issues with noise - in fact, last week I went to the boat next door to apologise for running the Kipor on the pontoon - wanted to run it completely dry. Their response was, "what noise?"

Hope this helps

Some great pointers there, by the sounds of things you understand general mechanics etc.

I'd say Kipor where a good brand for people such as yourself yes, but i wouldn't hedge my bet with their aftersales or technical advise, not up to scratch

From a first time buyer perspective, thats a bit of a worry

I have serviced a few friends 'Kippers' and tbh they all worked fine, and everything was straightforward.

The Jap honda is rather lovely though! (EX500)
