DIY Water Tank Gauge

This approach to measuring water volume in the tank is great if you are sat stationary in marina with no swell. My tank is GRP and integral to the hull being built on top of the keel. The shape is thin at the bottom where it occupies some of the keel space the it goes flat like a large box built on top of the keel. The volume is 780 litres. We definitely have a none linear relationship between height and volume. The previous owner chose to install a domestic water meter with pulsed output. Each pulse is 1 litre. Fill the tank to the brim. Reset the pulse counter to zero then once the tank is empty you take a reading. We are empty at 780 litres. You know exactly how much water is left in the tank to the nearest litre. Total cost is £47. £40 for meter and £7 for pulse counter. The benefit of this system is that if you are crossing oceans and the boat is on a permanent heal, the water level being at an angle in the tank is irrelevant. We still know to the nearest litre how much we have. It works so well we installed the same system on the watermaker. We can now compare water used to water made and know exactly where we are.

For completeness, here it is in its case, which I've then mocked up onto the switch panel:
