Hi all, I've posted in the other thread, and have decided to research this myself. I've ordered the bits up to install a transom shower on my Doral 230CC. After a mildly scary conversation as to whether I can get to the "plastic type" cold water tank with Simco today I've bitten the bullet, given I can "self tap" into this tank.

Bits I've ordered...

- Whale Compact Shower Handset
- Universal 12 Litre 12V Pump
- Adapter Female 1/2"
- Hose Connetor
(For tapping into the water tank)
- Straight Adapter

This is the basic kit list. I'll probably put a "rubber booted" single switch somewhere on the back of the boat to flick on, so that people can flick it on and grab the shower.

As long as I can get to the tank on the boat I should be OK...scary bit is cutting the 3inch hole for the shower itself.. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Damn thats a nice boat Ballistix.

Yes you replied to my thread, thankyou and thankyou for doing all the homework, excellent work :-)
If you dont mind, please keep us all informed on how your getting on, i may be even able to help in some way, plus i only live in Cheltenham, not a million miles away.
Right,i'm going to take a look at that parts list now :-)

Cheers

Hey Gilly, thanks for posting that original thread, it made me think "I remember last summer, when we were getting out of the water, wishing to shower off the salty water". So it's your fault I'm doing this! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We love the boat, it's beautifully made and is incredibly stable (and fast) in the water. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'll keep you posted with photos and step by step findings!

Just down the road, where is your boat? Ours is in Poole.

Your very welcome Ballistix.
Now i'm sorry i've made you do this, please, let me help pay for it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
She looks gorgeous i have to say.
Yes,please do,it will be very interesting to see the progress and the very best of luck with it.
Thought your boat may have been in Oxfordshire,me and my boat are still in Cheltenham i'm afraid, but if you know of anywhere cheap in Poole to leave a boat, either on a trailer or in the water for a few months, please tell as i'm getting fed up with towing.
I know what you mean about wanting a shower after getting out,so you best get on with it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi

I dont know why you would need am external switch, the transom showers I have had all worked "on demand" ( albiet you need to have the pump on standby - the master switch can be mounted on dashboard)

cheers

In Cobbs Quay Gilly, quite expensive, on the stack, but it's worth it! Brother in law in Hamble, might be able to find somewhere to store your boat around there I'll ask him.

Alrob, they leak if you leave them on all the time, my rationale is, people can get on the boat and flick the switch and shower away, rather than climb all over the seats, switch it on, clamber back over again to take a shower.

just had a thought - if you already have a tank then I presume you have a pump - can you not tee into this on the flow side of pump, that is how my rinker 232 was plumbed.

sorry to stick my oar in /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

cheers

I think you'll find an inline flow switch would do the job. Wired so that when you turn the water on at the shower, the flow switch detects it and turns on the pump. No need for switches on the transom then.

Happy for all oars to be stuck in! (so to speak).
I've never used the pump that is in there, I don't think it's up to the job (enough litres per min). Doral didn't question me tapping another pump in.

T25. The pump above already detects the water being "asked for" so will deliver on demand. The point is that all of these pumps leak a bit if left powered up, hence my switch, I could have the switch on the dash as an alternative..

Glad you don't mind my sticking the nose in, so in that case yes, I would go for a remote switch, maybe inside but on the dash is fine too, then switch on before you take a dip and off when not needed. One problem with mounting switches on the transom is they can be interfered with by any passing funny guy, another is getting one that's totally waterproof.

yeah u have me converted...bit more wiring but probably the best option, I'll post some picks of the install...sunday looks best...although...that looks pants too...I fear the summer weather..

tansoms showers that I have had did not have addidional switches to the normal cold water pump. As suggested elsewhere, I would keep it simple and just T off the cold water outlet to the galley. The transom shower should have a push button on/off in the handle (mechanical, I mean, not electrical). This way, not new electrics,wiring,switches.. just a bit of tubing. Just be realsitic.. its a washdown you are going to get, not a powershower. The shower tubing needs to slide back into the engine bay after you have used it. I think commonly they are situated to one side of the transom, so it is out of the way. Are you sure you location isnt going to stuff all that shower tube straight into the engine?
BTW a Roto tool is brilliant for cutting the GRP.. much better than a jigsaw.

Hi gjgm. It doesn't have a galley, so not that simple. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Yep, got to put the thing where the hose doesn't foul the engine or visa versa. Putting it that side for that reason. Luckily there is space that side (The Doral 230CC has nice space that side). The point on water release is answered above..it's a pressure release pump.

Keep it coming..

Remember that you may have some issues mounting this in a curveature of the hull... your fixing may need a straight edge...

If the flat cushion on the back lifts, I'd consider a less intrusive install with the handle "hung" under there and access by simply by lifting the cushion a bit.. (just seems a shame to make a big hole at the stern there....). Excess hose can roll up in a small removable box in there as well... or go for one of those spring coiled hoses...

Hi, yep, good points, I won't hack it, I'm proud of the boat (but prepared to cut holes) even if I seel it I see this as a bonus. But fair point on the asthetics. The engine cushion (so to speak) lifts on rams from the front, so it's not practical to shove the shower in there.

Have to say that Richard at the Marine Megastore is superb. All the stuff arrived today, and I know he had to pull the stops out for me (called him at 2pm yesterday to order bits). Seriously impressed.
