Diy Switch Panel Stickers

I know what you mean. I bought a Hitachi label printer, about £20 on Amazon. It's brilliant. Does not fade in sunlight and seems totally waterproof.

I think I got the idea here on an earlier thread

Good luck

Mine are embossed Dymo tape labels. Functional!

Poor picture cropped from a larger one

Anyone had a go at doing their own ?

The proprietary ones never seem to have the one's you want.

Thanks

These people (http://lps.ie/) will etch a panel for you onto plastic card, black on white or the other way round, which you can then make up into a switch panel front plate. The stuff they use is called "Traffolyte" which must be a trade name. I opted for the thickest they do (1.5mm as I recall) and it has made a net panel.

http://aaisp.net/printing-engraving.html will do similar, using laser engraving of Rowmark plastic. My first project using it was a combined engine and electrics panel for Kindred Spirit:

When I rebuilt the back of Ariam's chart table (including the woodwork, bookshelf, lighting, etc), instead of having one big panel etched I designed a series of individual ones that could be mounted on a grey plastic board:
(Sadly the picture is a bit out of focus, and you might need to follow the Photobucket link and use the zoom button to see the panels properly)

I also have numerous other panels around the boat, for example:

and

and the one in the cockpit that I sadly don't seem to have a picture of.

There are also some small signs and placards that are simply engraved with no switches etc fitted; some of those are white on red instead of the white on black used for panels. They actually have a wide range of colours available - see http://www.visualsigns.net/resources/Color chart laser mark.jpg.opt770x1179o0,0s770x1179.jpg

The one downside of this stuff is that once you start using it, anything else looks sub-standard, and you have to stick with the engraving :p

EDIT: Getting back to the original question, if you do just want stick-on labels, then mine's another vote for Brother label makers. I have one which I use for labelling wiring and other behind-the-scenes stuff.

Very nice work and lovely looking boat interior. Love navigation station (too good to be called a chart table)
