has anyone replaced the standing rigging on their yacht themselves with the mast still up. did you use swaged or norseman type fittings and what did you use to support the mast as each piece of rigging was replaced

Swaged fittings, one by one and use halyards to compensate for the temporary loss of individual standing rigging shrouds/stays.

I had my rigging made about 0.5 metre overlong with swagged fittings on the mast end and Norsman fittings on the lower ends. Did it with the masts down.

Yep, exactly as above.
But choose a calm day as it's a bit disconcerting being at the top of the mast while removing what's holding it up!!

these are swageless /norseeman fittings- web page
from a logistical point of view if using swaged fitings both ends ;do you remove one shroud , send it away to be made up,refit and then repeat for the other fittings??

Hi
In relation to the Norseman terminals, what does "Open Body" mean and "Closed Body" ??
Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Open body rigging screws are the type that you can see the two threads. Closed body ones are more like a tube with a hole for adjusting...you cant see the threaded ends as they are inside the rigging screw

Anyone have a preference for StaLok over Norseman or visa versa? I have used StaLok to repair a shroud and found them easy to use and secure
